Dear Valued Members of the 4th District,
I hope this email finds you well. As we approach the end of summer and the beginning of winter, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past few months and look forward to the upcoming events.
Firstly, I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who supported the Vietnam Wall That Heals event in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. The Honor Guard Teams from White Bear Lake Post 168 and North Saint Paul Post 39 did an outstanding job, and it was great to see representation from Posts 39, 168, 542, 577, and 599, along with their Auxiliaries, S.A.L., and Legion Riders. This event truly showcased the community’s ability to come together and support our Veterans.
On August 12, 2026, we had our 1st Ramsey County Central Committee at Post 39, which was well-attended by almost every post in the 4th District. The Commanders shared updates on their posts, and members had the opportunity to ask questions. Sandy Gibson, 4th District Auxiliary President, provided an update on the Auxiliary’s mission for the year and reminded us that the 4th District will be building poppies at the Fall Conference. This is a competition between all districts to see who can build the most poppies within an hour. If you’re attending the Fall Conference, I encourage you to help us build the most poppies this year.
As you read this, I will be attending the 107th National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. I anticipate that the convention will be focused on the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act (TCAVA) under H.R. 9237 in the House and S. 4744 in the Senate. The majority of criticism surrounding TCAVA centers on Section 108, which would change how the VA evaluates future disability claims involving tinnitus and obstructive sleep apnea. In my opinion, it is essential that we continue to fight to retain our earned VA benefits and never allow anyone to remove these benefits.
The Ramsey County Central Committee (RCCC) Meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on September 9, 2026, at Post 577. I encourage all Post and family entities to attend this meeting.
If you’re able to attend but would like to call in, I have established a Zoom meeting.
Meeting ID: 848 1949 6279
The 4th District Christmas Party Potluck will be held on December 9, 2026. We ask those attending the event to bring an unwrapped Christmas gift, which will be donated to families in need.
The 4th District Sons of the American Legion Convention will be Friday, May 8, 2027, and the 4th District Members Convention will be Saturday, May 9, 2027.
The 2027 Winter Carnival King Boreas Grande Day Parade will be Saturday, January 20, 2027, at 2 p.m. I encourage all Legion family members to attend.
Before I close, I would like to remind everyone to check in with our snowbirds as they prepare to leave for warmer climates. Let’s make sure to provide them with updates on Post activities and show our appreciation for their service.
Thank you for your service, and I am honored to serve alongside you.
Sincerely,
Daniel M. Bronk
2026–2027 District Commander
4th District
FROM YOUR VICE COMMANDER
Dan Norton
My name is Dan Norton, and I’m your Area 1 Vice Commander. I’m a Marine Corps veteran and enlisted in the Marines after graduating from St. Paul Harding in 1976. My MOS was infantry, and I left the Marines in 1979 as a corporal after completing my three-year active-duty obligation, followed by three years in the inactive reserve.
After the Marines, I went to work for 3M and attended Lakewood Community College. I retired from 3M after 36 years of service.
I have been with Arcade Phalen American Legion Post 577 for eight years. During that time, I served as Post Vice Commander for four years and Post 577 Commander for two years. I’m now Post 577 Finance Officer.
I look forward to attending at least one meeting at each Post in Area 1 while I’m your Vice Commander. I also look forward to meeting Area 1 Post officers and discussing recruitment efforts for new members in the 4th District.
Regards,
Dan Norton
4th District Vice Commander
